Off-Page Optimisation
Off-page optimising involves creating exposure for your website on the Internet through the creation of Backlinks, with the intention of obtaining higher search engine rankings. Create backlinks to your website yourself by participating in Forums, Blogs, Social Sites, Writing Articles or by joining Free Directories.
Off-Page Optimisation
Off-page optimisation is anything that is done that does not involve changing your website pages, but is instead done to something else external. The general idea behind off-page optimisation is to provide greater exposure for your website or higher search engine rankings via a link back (Backlink). Some areas of off-page optimisation include:
Directories
Joining a web directory either paid, or free like DMOZ with the intention of getting better exposure and possibly even a link back to your website is good thing. However, there are good, bad and downright ugly sites to choose from. Joining a bad directory won’t necessarily ‘hurt’ your page ranking, but it can be a waste of time and money when it could be better spent elsewhere.
Articles
There are many article directories that allow you to write an article about something you know, and will syndicate (make your content available) for other people to use on their website. Syndicating articles is very popular among Search Engine Optimisers as anyone who uses your content on their website must include your biography which should include a link back to your website.
Forums & Blogging
By participating in someone else’s Forum or Blog it is possible to get links back to your website via a Signature link. If you are going to join however, don’t just write any old crap with the sole intention of getting links, but write something you are passionate about and try to make it worthwhile. If the owner of the Forum or Blog feels you are taking advantage of their site, they will soon let you know about it. There are many reasons why blogging is important.
Social Sites
There are thousands of social communities on the Internet these days and many ways for Social Marketing. If you have something you want to talk about, there will be a social media/network site out there for you. They provide a great opportunity to get yourself and your website noticed. Just don’t bite off more than you can chew.
